Flight Model March 2005

The Flight PAMELA instrument was assembled in the "Clean Rooms" of the INFN Laboratories of Roma Tor Vergata. In a first phase subsystems and after the instrument with all subdetectors were periodically exposed to electrons and proton beams of the CERN PS and SPS facilities and tested in an energy range between 10 - 100 GeV.

Beam tests:

Jun 2002 @ SPS
  • Test of preliminary setup with p (200-300GeV) e- (40-300GeV)
Sep 2003 @ SPS
  • Test with p (50-150GeV)

Sep 2003 - Test with p 100 e- 100

 

Jan 2005 @ IABG

  • Full vibration/shock test at minimal load

Feb-Mar 2005 @ INFN Rome

  • Test with atmospheric cosmic rays


The completely integrate apparatus was checked with cosmic rays over a period of several months. Resonances control was performed at IABG Laboratories (Munich, Germany) before sending the telescope to TsSKB-Progress plant (Samara, Russia) where it was integrated with the satellite Resurs DK1.  

Pameta at IABG Laboratories (Munich) January 2005 Several thermal, electric, magnetic and telemetry tests were made; then the apparatus was transferred to Bajkonour where several checks were repeated. At the end of May 2006 the Satellite was installed on the rocket Soyuz-U. The launch happened the 15th of June 2006.
